MAKE IT A SMOOTH MOVE
Moving into your dream house can be anything but a dream. You
have the hectic task of packing everything, loading your furniture
into the moving van, and finally unpacking everything. To keep your
sanity during this process, it's important to avoid doing everything
all at once.
- Four weeks before the move: Start condensing your workload.
Take note of what's in the garage, closets, bedrooms and other
areas and decide what you want to keep, throw out or give away..
This way, you'll save valuable boxes and free up precious space
during the move. Also, notify your local post office. You'll need
to fill out a change-of-address form so your mail wont pile up
at your old residence. Be sure to contact utility companies about
a disconnection date on your old home, as well as the connection
date for your new home.
- Three to two weeks before the move: Start packing and labeling
boxes. Make sure you don't pack anything you might need in the
meantime, or you'll find yourself unpacking and then repacking
the same things.
- One week before the move: Cancel any newspaper subscriptions.
If you're hiring a professional moving company, verify the date
of your move with them just to be safe.
